Frequently asked questions

If you have a question that isn’t answered here, please feel free to contact us and we’ll be happy to help.

This depends on what you need it for. People often require IELTS to study at university in an English speaking country, for example, or they might use a Cambridge certificate to demonstrate their level of English when applying for a job. If you aren’t sure if you need to take an exam, or don’t know which would be best for you, then we will be very happy to discuss things with you and help you make the right decision.

Our classes are continuous, so you can start any day you like.

If you can’t come to a class, please tell Poppy or Chris a minimum of 24 hours before the class, and you can then recover the class at a later date. If you don’t tell us 24 hours before the class, then unfortunately you will lose the class.
No. There are no registration fees.

In our exam classes you will learn about the structure of the exam and strategies and tips to help you improve your marks. You will also do lots of exam practice, to identify areas you need to work on and to improve your confidence. Over a number of classes, you will cover a balance of the different parts of the exam that you are taking.

You will need to bring pens, pencils, and some paper. It is a good idea to have a folder to keep everything organised.

We use a specific exam text book for the classes, as well as a variety of different supplementary materials. Students can choose to buy the exam book for £20, or rent the book for £5 rental fee + a £20 deposit, which the student will get back as long as the book is returned in excellent condition.

Yes. Lots of students choose to attend a General English class before their exam class. It is a really good idea to continue improving your all-round English while also preparing for your exam.
You can take any Cambridge exam in Oxford in March, June and November. We can register you for the exam (usually about 6 weeks before), and will need you to give us your date of birth, nationality, and national identification number. The exam fee is approximately £150. You can take the IELTS exam in Oxford every two weeks. The fee is approximately £130.

Regular exam practice is a central part of the exam courses, and this will give you and your teacher a clear idea of your progress, and will help you both to decide when you are ready to take the exam.

We also organise a private tutorial for part-time exam preparation students every 8 weeks with the Principal or Director of Studies, so that we can discuss your progress, areas to improve, and future goals and study ideas.

You will need to buy or borrow an exam practice book for these classes. If you borrow the book, you will pay a deposit (£20) plus a rental fee (£5). If you return the book in excellent condition at the end of your course, we will return your full deposit – please make sure you only use pencil in the book, and erase any writing before you return it.
