I am an au pair in Oxford. When I was thinking of school where I should go, I asked my friends. One friend of mine referred Kheiron school. I am grateful for studying here. Tutors working at this school are friendly and always willing to solve your problem.

Frequently asked questions

When can I start?
Our classes are continuous, so you can start any day you like.
What if I can't come to a class?

If you can’t come to a class, please tell a member of the management team in the office a minimum of 24 hours before the class, and you can then recover the class at a later date. If you don’t tell us 24 hours before the class, then unfortunately you will lose the class.

Do I have to pay a registration fee?
No. There are no registration fees.
What will I study in the classes?

The curriculum at Kheiron is largely based on the CEFR framework descriptors. The syllabus for each level is comprehensive and balanced, and includes a rich balance of language (grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation) and skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing). The syllabus is provided in a learner-friendly format and is available online and given to you when you start. The syllabus is module based, in 6 week periods. Each week, the teachers complete a weekly plan which is structured to offer a balanced programme covering grammar, vocabulary, speaking and pronunciation, listening, reading and writing. The weekly plans are produced as a result of discussion with students (in your initial language consultation, your one-on-one tutorials, your feedback and our teacher developmental sessions) and close interaction between the teachers. The predicted lesson outcomes are included for each lesson before the class takes place. The weekly plan is then updated after the class takes place to show if the outcomes have been met. The weekly course outlines are designed to be flexible and can be modified at any time to meet the changing needs of students. The weekly plan is displayed on the whiteboard in the communal corridor, showing the learner outcomes for the week, and students are invited to refer to it.

What do I need to bring to class?
You will need to bring pens, pencils, and some paper. It is a good idea to have a folder to keep everything organised. We will provide all the study materials used in class.
My shifts at work change every week. Is this a problem?
No. A lot of our students have jobs which mean that the days and times they work can change every week. We try to be as flexible and understanding as possible, and are happy for you to attend different days or times each week if necessary. We just need you to tell us the days you would like to come as soon as you know your working schedule.
Will I receive a certificate when I leave the school?
Yes – all students will be given a certificate stating their level and how long they have studied at Kheiron.
How will my progress be assessed?

Every 6 weeks you will be given an online test based on the grammatical points you will have studied in your classes in the previous 6 weeks. There are typically 8 grammar points that you will cover each 6 weeks and we provide extra links to exercises on the grammar syllabus so that you can study at home further. We also assess students continuously, based on your contributions in class, your homework and how you communicate in your tutorials.

Can I have a student card?

We are happy to provide you with a Student ID card. These can be used to obtain a student discount from some businesses and organisations. If you would like a student ID card, please bring a passport photograph to the reception.

Is it possible to have a letter to confirm I am a student for the bank, for example?

Yes. Just ask us in reception and we will happily issue you with a letter confirming your start date and how long you intend to study at Kheiron.

I chose to study in Kheiron since it is a little school located in the heart of Oxford with excellent reviews and accredited by the British Council. As far I am concerned, my expectations were not disappointed from the first moment. Personally, it is the most suitable place in Oxford to learn English in a very stimulating atmosphere, where teachers are always focused on eliciting the best of you. What is more, they are continually adapting methodology and learning materials in order to make you reach a better comprehension and production of spoken English. Teachers are also friendly and animated, so you feel as if you had a second family in Oxford. I would doubtless come back!
