Stay with an English-speaking host or family in Oxford

Kheiron happily organises homestays in Oxford for students who would like to experience living with an English speaking host in Oxford. Homestays are an excellent opportunity to have further practice of communicating in English and to have the security of a safe and friendly place to stay.

A member of the management team visits each homestay personally to make sure that the accommodation is suitable and meets the needs of our students. Each room has a bed, a place to put your clothes, a desk and a chair.

Included in the homestay is bed, breakfast and dinner every day and lunch at the weekends. The homestays are usually a house and occasionally an apartment.

Frequently asked questions

How do I wash my clothes?

The host will wash your clothes once a week. If you would like extra washing, you can speak to the host individually and discuss the best solution.

Is there wifi in the house?

Yes. All the homestays have free wifi. Please talk to your host about how many minutes per day you can use the wifi.

Can I have a key?

Yes. All homestay hosts give the students a key.

How far are the homestays from Oxford?

Oxford is a very small city (approximately 1km squared) and all the homestays are located approximately 4 km from the city centre (this is approximately 10-15 minutes by bus and 20-40 minutes by foot).

What do I do if I don't like the homestay?

We always encourage our students to speak to Poppy, the principal about anything they are not happy about immediately so that we can find a solution as quickly as possible.

Do you use an agency to find the homestay accommodation?

No. We personally select homestay families to work with.

Do I have to bring sheets and towels?

No. The homestay will provide this for you.

Does the homestay provide shampoo, toothpaste and toiletries?

No, you must bring your own.

Do I have to return home at a particular time in the evening?

For students aged 16 or 17, you must be home by 22:00 (unless your parent or guardian has requested in writing that you should be home before 22:00).

For students aged 18 and over, it is your choice what time you return home, but please be respectful and considerate regarding other people who may be asleep in the house.

I am allergic to animals. What should I do?

Please tell us in advance (we will ask you to complete a homestay information form stating any allergies, medical conditions and food requirements when you book your course). We will not place you in a homestay with any animals.

I don't like English food. What should I do?

If you choose the option of living in a homestay, they will treat you like a member of the family but you must tell them if there is anything you do not like eating. However, remember that part of the experience of living with an English speaking host in England is to try new things and to understand the culture!

I chose to study in Kheiron since it is a little school located in the heart of Oxford with excellent reviews and accredited by the British Council. As far I am concerned, my expectations were not disappointed from the first moment. Personally, it is the most suitable place in Oxford to learn English in a very stimulating atmosphere, where teachers are always focused on eliciting the best of you. What is more, they are continually adapting methodology and learning materials in order to make you reach a better comprehension and production of spoken English. Teachers are also friendly and animated, so you feel as if you had a second family in Oxford. I would doubtless come back!
